Ambassador Program

The Flora of Virginia Ambassador Program trains experienced Flora App users to educate others on how to maximize use of the App. The program increases educational opportunities for new Flora App users in basic botany, habitats and ecosystems, increasing understanding of the critical importance of protecting and restoring Virginia’s open spaces.

In the Spring of 2024, Flora board members partnered with local organizations interested in offering Ambassador training to their constituencies:

Virginia Master Naturalists
Blandy Experimental Farm
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Members of these organizations were first invited to an online “How to Use the Flora App”, then encouraged to continue training to become a Flora of Virginia Ambassador. The additional work includes — keying homework; a Stroll through the App; an online homework review session; and, participation in a Field Lab with Flora board members. The final step has budding Ambassadors planning and hosting their own educational program with the support of the Flora Education Committee.
