Matching Gifts

Many employers have matching programs for charitable contributions made by their employees. Donations from employees’ spouses and retirees may also qualify for a match. Check with your employer to see if your donation to the Flora of Virginia can be matched.

IRA Charitable Rollover

If you have a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA), IRA charitable rollovers allow you to transfer up to $100,000 each year tax free.  For your gift to qualify:

  • You must be 70 ½ or older at the time of your gift.
  • The transfer must go directly from your IRA to the Flora of Virginia Project
  • Your total annual IRA gift(s) cannot exceed $100,000.
  • Your gift must be made to the Flora of Virginia Project by December 31.
  • Your gift must be outright. IRA Charitable Rollover gifts to donor-advised funds or life-income vehicles, such as charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts, cannot be accepted.

Please consult with your tax advisor when considering this type of gift and contact your IRA Administrator to ensure that all necessary steps are completed to finalize your charitable distribution.

Bequest Contributions

A bequest provides a gift to the Flora of Virginia Project in your will and is one of the simplest ways to support the organization’s future. Consider the following language:
“I give, devise, and bequeath to The Foundation of the Flora of Virginia Project (EIN 54-2053212), P.O. Box 512, Richmond, VA 23218.”

Retirement Plan Beneficiary Designation

Changing your beneficiary designation to include the Flora of Virginia Project is as simple as filling out a beneficiary form from your plan provider. You may receive significant tax savings by naming a charity as a beneficiary of your retirement plan.
